MRI in focus

Not just a scan, the whole picture

MRI is an extraordinarily powerful tool, but its greatest strength emerges when it is considered alongside every element of your assessment. A finding on an MRI scan becomes truly meaningful when your Preventicum doctor interprets it in the context of your personal medical history, blood test results, physical examination, and ultrasound imaging.

At Preventicum, our two Philips Ingenia 1.5T and 3T MRI scanners represent the forefront of modern medical imaging. Powered by the latest AI technology SmartSpeed Precise, they deliver images of exceptional clarity and precision. During your visit, you will be asked to move between our 1.5T and 3T scanners as our team selects the most appropriate system for each part of your assessment. This tailored approach ensures that every scan is optimised, providing the highest level of diagnostic detail. Throughout, our experienced team of Senior Radiographers will ensure your comfort, while you enjoy our integrated audiovisual entertainment system with films, music, radio or a podcast.

What your MRI reveals

Your brain imaging assesses for aneurysms, white matter changes and early markers of neurological risk. Cardiac MRI provides a detailed evaluation of the structure and function of your heart. LiverMultiScan offers an advanced analysis of liver health, detecting fat and early fibrosis, conditions that often develop silently over many years. Abdominal and pelvic imaging examines the major organs and blood vessels in this region, including screening for abdominal aortic aneurysm. For clients choosing our Optimal Assessment, even more advanced brain and heart analysis is included, with an additional musculoskeletal scan of your choice, perhaps your knee, shoulder, hip or lumbar spine, to identify tendon, ligament, disc, or cartilage changes in fine detail.

Your results, explained by our Radiologists

A distinctive part of the Preventicum experience is the opportunity to review your MRI results directly with a Consultant Radiologist. Rather than receiving findings in isolation, you are guided through your images in a clear, reassuring, and highly personalised way, helping you understand what they mean for your health.

If an urgent referral is needed, we can do this on the same day to a specialist within our trusted network.

During our Optimal Assessment, this experience is further enhanced when reviewing the blood vessels that supply your brain. Using HoloLens technology, we bring this intricate network to life in three dimensions, allowing you to see your own circulation with remarkable clarity and depth. This immersive approach transforms complex anatomy into something tangible and personal.

In 2025, our Consultant Radiologists reviewed over 5.5 million images and spent over 3,000 hours of reporting. They identified findings spanning every area we scan, ranging from early liver disease and abdominal aortic aneurysms to significant joint pathology and in our Optimal+ and Ultimate+ clients, prostate abnormalities requiring further evaluation. In many cases, these were clients who felt entirely well.

Biparametric Prostate MRI

For male clients aged 45 and over, or those with a family history of prostate cancer, our Optimal+ and Ultimate+ Assessments include a biparametric MRI scan of the prostate.

Every prostate MRI is reported by a specialist Consultant Uroradiologist, supported by advanced AI technology. The results are interpreted alongside your PSA blood test, ultrasound and a detailed medical history, allowing your Preventicum Doctor to give a clear, considered assessment of your prostate health, not just a scan result in isolation.

Prostate cancer is the most common cancer in men in the UK. Detecting it early, before symptoms develop, is when the greatest difference can be made. Because there are no risks associated with MRI scanning, we recommend including a prostate MRI in your annual Preventicum assessment to monitor for any changes over time.
